Adventures in Venezuela
By: Braden
A few weeks ago I went to Venezuela. Unlike other countries in South America Venezuela has a lot less tourism but that doesn't make it a bad place to visit. There are lots of things to do and the sites are beautiful. After seeing those sites I knew what I had to do. I went paragliding! The view was incredible! I could see mountains, I could see the ocean and the towns! It was amazing!
Okay now it's time for some facts. The word Venezuela is Little Venice in English. When explorers first found this land they noticed that some of the people who lived there lived in houses on stilts over the ocean. The only thing they could compare these houses to were the ones in Venice.
Now back to the present! After paragliding I decided to go to the beach. I was so excited to go swimming in the surf to only find out that in my mad rush to pack everything and get to the air port I had forgotten to pack my swimming shorts! Darn! So instead of swimming I was going to do some crab hunting. To crab hunt you will need a small bucket and a sand shovel. First you need to look for a hole in the sand a little ways from the water. Once you've found a hole that looks like it has been dug by a crab start to dig. Usually a crab will dig a tunnel with lots of turns so while your digging be careful not to collapse the tunnel because you'll probably never be able to find the tunnel again. If all goes well eventually two eyes will protrude from the sand. Be careful not to hit the crab with the shovel because you could hurt it. The crab will start to run towards the water, that's when your bucket will come in handy. Try and put yourself in between the crab and the water. Then put the bucket on top of the crab and then slide your shovel underneath the crab inside of the upside down bucket. Slowly right side the bucket and the shovel so that the crab will fall into the bucket. Then you've caught yourself a crab! I caught crabs for an hour. By the end of the hour I had caught 3 crabs.
It was my last day of my vacation and I new what I was going to do. I was going to go to Angel Falls! Angel Falls is a enormous waterfall. It is actually the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the world. It is 3,212 feet tall! It was amazing! It is the place I would recommend to people to see who are going to Venezuela!
Well it was finally time for me to go. I had had so much fun in this country I knew I would have to come back sometime. Venezuela was beautiful and never seized to amaze. I recommend it to anyone who is wandering where to go in South America. This is Braden over and out!
